Longhorns match most lopsided win at Allen Fieldhouse

Texas stumbled into Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday well aware of its humbling track record in the storied arena.

The Longhorns sauntered out having made some much better history.

After winning once in their previous 17 tries in the Phog, the nation's eighthranked team turned a narrow halftime lead into a record-tying rout. Courtney Ramey scored 18 points to lead five players in doublefigures scoring, and Texas beat the No. 3 Jayhawks 8459 to match the most lopsided win by an opponent in the 65-year history of the building.

“I'm just happy for our guys. They put so much energy and time and effort into everything,” said coach Shaka Smart, whose Longhorns never trailed. “These last several months and having guys canceled and guys having things up in the air, having a couple guys unavailable, but the guys just hung in there and controlled what they could control.”

They certainly controlled the Jayhawks.

Andrew Jones added 14 points, Matt Coleman III had 13 and Jericho Sims had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Longhorns (8-1, 2-0 Big 12), whose victory margin at Allen Fieldhouse was the most since Missouri's 91-66 win on Feb. 1, 1989.

“The message is pretty obvious: This doesn't happen in the Fieldhouse,” said Jalen Wilson, who led the Jayhawks with 20 points. “This is very embarrassing. We're a good team and today we didn't show what we're capable of.”

Ochai Agbaji also had 11 points for the Jayhawks (8-2, 1-1), who shot just 31 percent from the field and went 3 of 23 from beyond the arc while losing their first game since their opener against top-ranked Gonzaga.

“There were blank stares in the huddle,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “We have to be a lot better mentally. A lot tougher.”

Coincidentally, it was the first top-10 matchup for Texas in a Big 12 regular-season game since beating thenno. 2 Kansas on Jan. 22, 2011. The win also snapped a three-game skid against the Jayhawks, who had won 16 of 17 against the Longhorns and had been 16-1 against them in games played inside 65-year-old Allen Fieldhouse.

No. 2 Baylor 76, Iowa State 65: Jared Butler scored 21 points to lead four scorers in double figures and visiting Baylor (9-0, 2-0 Big 12) held off Iowa State (2-5, 0-3) for its narrowest margin of victory this season.

No. 12 Missouri 81, Arkansas 68: Jeremiah Tilmon had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Missouri (7-1, 1-1 SEC) handed host Arkansas (9-1, 1-1) its first loss of the season.

Oklahoma State 82, No. 13 Texas Tech 77 (OT): Bryce Williams scored 15 points in his first start for visiting Oklahoma State (7-2, 1-2 Big 12), including a steal and breakaway dunk in overtime as the Cowboys held on to beat Texas Tech (8-3, 1-2) .

No. 15 Illinois 66, Purdue 58: Kofi Cockburn had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Ayo Dosunmu scored 12 points and host Illinois (8-3, 4-1 Big Ten) beat Purdue (7-5, 2-3).
