Registration open at Oasis with virtual classes starting this month

-

Registration at San Diego Oasis is now open for free technology classes, along with over 3,000 virtual lifelong learning classes. Lessons for the spring session start this month and include everything from ballroom dancing to yoga, Spanish and climate change. Cost for classes very.

Offerings for the free technology classes, presented by Cox, range from a sampler of fun phone apps to lessons on Alexa, Android phones and staying safe on the internet.

Since the start of the pandemic, San Diego Oasis has been teaching seniors to engage virtually to continue learning, interact with peers and share their wisdom and caring with low-income elementary school students as tutors. Now, more than ever, Oasis is helping to prevent isolation and loneliness through its programs.

The nonprofit organization offers more than 200 virtual classes per month to adults 50 and older. A virtual tutoring program pairing seniors with young students, a drive thru book giveaway to provide new books to low-income students who have no access to schools and libraries right now, and a Digital Divide program for low-income seniors who need access to devices, internet and training are also available..

In October, Oasis hosted the region’s largest virtual technology fair for seniors. Topics included password management, staying safe and secure online, managing finances online and other important topics. The presentations continue to be accessible free of charge at san-diego.oasisnet.org/tech_talk/tech-talk-1.
