PALA, CA — Marilyn Yarger left this world and entered the world of the angels and saints on January 21, 2021, at home surrounded by her children, grandchild­ren, and great-grandchild­ren. Marilyn was born in Elsinore, CA, to Ransom and Anna Stewart. Her father was killed 16 months after her birth. Her mother then married Henry Grenfell. At the age of 9, the family moved to the Agua Tibia Ranch in Pala, where her stepfather was foreman. She attended the one-room schoolhous­e in Pauma, CA, and was one of two persons who graduated from the ‘new’ Pauma School. She went to Fallbrook High School and graduated in 1942. After graduation and during World War II, Marilyn went to San Diego and worked at Consolidat­ed, where she riveted wings on B-24 Liberator Bombers and PBY Sea Planes. Marilyn married James Yarger of Pala in 1948. James made the adobes and built an adobe home for them. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they moved into the new home where she lived until her death.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Sister Mary, Donna Rico, Linda Suarez, and Claren of Pala, Kenneth of Temecula, and Ransom of Glennville, CA. She is survived by 11 grandchild­ren, 18 greatgrand­children, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by husband James, son, Donald, and parents, Ransom and Anna Stewart, stepfather, Henry Grenfell, and sisters,

Maxine Staab of Lewiston, ID and Gloria Diamond of Culver City, CA.

Marilyn was deeply involved with her children during elementary school. She attended all school activities. She personaliz­ed, boxed, and sent the orders of Pala Mission School Christmas cards. She organized monthly rummage sales for the Church. For the last 40 years, she organized the White Elephant booth for the parish fiesta. During her lifetime, she was member of the Parish Altar Society, The Kateri Tekakwitha Conference, the Diocesan Deanery, Lake Elsinore Women’s Club, and the Pauma Valley Women’s Club.

Services for Marilyn will be in the San Juan Diego Center at Mission San Antonio de Pala Church, Pala. Rosary is Monday, February 1 at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, February 2 at 10 a.m. Private interment will follow at St. Mary’s Hill, Oak Hill, Escondido. Marilyn was always kind and a woman of peace. Of all her qualities, the most important is she was and is loving.
