SAN DIEGO —
On Friday, April 3, 2020, Robert Knudsen, loving husband, brother, grandfather, and father of two children, passed away at the age of 82. “Bob” was born on January 12, 1938, in Minden, Nebraska, to George and Evelyn Knudsen. On February 2, 1957, he married Marilyn Joan Meyer. They raised two daughters, Karen and Kathy.
Bob served in the Navy and traveled to Saipan, Guam, and served aboard the USS Duluth during the Vietnam War. Bob worked in the medical field during his time in the service as a Laboratory Technician, Operating Room Technician, and Pulmonary Laboratory Technician. He was stationed at Balboa Hospital and Camp Pendleton prior to his retirement after serving his country.
Bob received his Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health from National University.
Always a good athlete, Bob played played football and basketball in high school.
Bob was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 for the Minden High School’s victorious basketball win in the 1956 State Basketball Championship game. He also enjoyed playing racquetball, tennis and golf. One of Bob’s greatest joys in life was to meet his “golf buddies” at Admiral
Baker to play 18 holes.
Bob was a gifted craftsman. He made beautiful stained glass. Bob loved to read, and during one deployment overseas he finished reading all the books in the library; so, he read the encyclopedia from A to Z.
Bob was a kind, honest, hard-working man.
He was known for his generosity, belief in service, and love of family.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, George, his mother Evelyn, and his sister Patricia. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his two children Karen and Kathy, his brother John, his two grandsons Robert and Samuel, and greatgranddaughter Margot.
A witness Burial was held on April 28, 2020, at Miramar National Cemetery. Bob was laid to rest in a Military Honors Service on September 4, 2020, at Miramar National Cemetery.
