Teresa B. ‘Tere’ Kiy
April 19, 1934 - January 23, 2021
SAN DIEGO, CA — Tere was born and raised in Mexico City. There she met and later married the love of her life, Derek Kiy, a native of England. Together they settled in San Diego in 1959 where Tere became a naturalized American citizen. Tere was a devoted mother raising her three boys. She was also an ESL teaching assistant at Horace Mann Middle School where she worked for close to 20 years supporting immigrant and refugee youth. With Derek, Tere shared 50 memorable years together before his passing in the fall of 2009. Throughout much of her later life, Tere was a parishioner of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in La Mesa and an active member of their Altar Guild. Tere ,who succumbed to COVID-19
at the age of 86 years, is survived by her three sons, Alexander, Richard and Jimmy; her seven grandchildren, Trevy, Eliza, Derek, Danny, Phillip, Meredith and Emily; her three great grandchildren, Kensington “Kensi”, Lucille “Lucy” Snow and Kyra Rose; her two daughters-in-law, Lisa and Monica; her brother, Jorge Barron; her sister-in laws, Elsa, Elda, and Margaret as well as her nephews and nieces Roxana, Lety, Ricardo, Jorge, Sergio, Alejandro, Gaby, Claudia, and Tracy. A virtual memorial service and celebration of life will be organized for Tere on
February 6th, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Tere to support Say San Diego, a nonprofit supporting immigrant and refugee-focused youth development programs in the Crawford cluster neighborhoods of East San Diego where she lived and worked for many years. https://saysandiego. networkforgood.com/ projects/122762-inmemory-of-teresa-kiy
