SAN DIEGO — Thomas Paul Schnapp, 79, of San Diego, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021, at the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in Chula Vista, CA. Born May 9, 1941, to Vivian and Paul Schnapp in Toledo, Ohio, he shared countless holidays & special occasions with his siblings. Thomas studied drafting & design at Macomber High School and was graduated in 1959.

Later in 1964, he and Phyllis were married; he enlisted in the Army and moved to his station, Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Following his enlistment, they returned to Toledo. His four sons were born, while he worked as an industrial designer in Toledo until the age of 32.

Thomas then relocated to San Diego and was employed as an industrial designer. He worked part of each year while enjoying the weather and his interests during the other half. His many interests included motorcycli­ng, bicycling, playing scrabble, chess, and sharing jokes and one-liners with friendship. A most memorable and once in a lifetime bicycle tour from San Francisco to San Diego, was shared with his four young sons and nephew, Steven. What a unique way to introduce and share the California coastline with his young family.

Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, David Schnapp and is survived by siblings, sister Mary Jo Antalek (husband) Frank, brother Timothy Schnapp, (wife) Sue (Baumgartne­r) Schnapp, brother Martin Schnapp, (wife) Ellen, brother Leo Schnapp, (wife) Carolyn Nitz Schnapp.

Thomas is survived by his four sons, of whom he was extremely proud. Gregory Paul Schnapp, (wife) Krystal, of Georgia, Andrew John Schnapp, (wife) Yvette, of Arizona, Thomas Brian Schnapp, (wife) Ling, of Georgia, and Hans Gunther Schnapp of Toledo. He is also survived by his former wife and friend, Phyllis H. Schnapp, of Georgia, along with his nine grandchild­ren.

No services for Thomas in Toledo are planned at this time. Later, a private gathering in San Diego will be held.
