SAN DIEGO — John passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning January 3, 2021, with his devoted wife, Diana, 38 years by his bedside, and his faithful service dog, Ciara. John was born Leonard Dennis Kazubowski Jr. on September 21, 1929, in Buffalo, New York, the son of Leonard and Agnes Kazubowski (both deceased).

He is survived by his children, Dennis Kazubowski (Liz), Linda Kazubowski Coleman, Kevin Kazubowski, and Karyn Kazubowski Henderson, his step-son, Michael Levitz (Cheri), and 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

His son David predeceased him. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Olow, his brother, William Kazubowski (Dottie), and numerous nieces and nephews.

John served in the army in Germany during the occupation after World War II (1947-51) and then in the Navy in the Korean War (1952-1956). He served with distinction and also participated in the atomic bomb testing in the Marshall Islands. He was greatly moved when he was on the Nevada Honor Flight in 2017 and was joined by his son, Dennis, who had been a marine in Viet Nam.

After his military service, John became first Chief Deputy Court Executive Officer of the Superior Court and County Clerk for the County of San Diego and then Court Executive Officer, Jury Commissioner, and County Clerk for the County of Santa Clara. John won many awards in this capacity for his organization and administration of the court system in Santa Clara County and also wrote the manual for service of process for the State of California. He practiced law after he retired from the Courts and won a very important and published case entitled “Brooks v. County of Santa Clara,” assuring that veterans would not have to pay for public health license or permit to sell in the State of California as they were exempt under law. John was always mindful of his duty to his fellow veterans.

After retiring from the practice of law, John wrote wonderful children’s stories to the delight of both adults and children who read them. After cremation, his remains will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada.

Walton’s Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held via Zoom in the near future.

Any donations should be made to his favorite charities: Music With Confidence (www. musicwithconfidence.org) and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
