SAN DIEGO — On January 15, 2021, Dr. Lawrence Gordon Mayo “Larry” suffered a heart attack and left his earthly body following his birthday breakfast of “just cake” while at home with his beloved Pamela Mccormick. He was 77.

Long-time partner of the late Maureen Otten, Larry is survived by his sister Nancy (John) Lunsford of Hanover, PA, and brother Robert (Linda) Mayo of New Berlin, WI. He is further survived by loving nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grand-nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, and patients.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI., he graduated from St. Francis Seminary in 1962 with a BA in Philosophy before acquiring an MA degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin. He then traveled westward to complete a PH.D. in Clinical Psychology, staying in San Diego to start his private clinical practice and later expanding to the Lake Arrowhead area. The list never ends: romantic, compassionate, fiery, liberal, audacious, kind, generous, appreciative, brilliant, opinionated, independent, daring, humorous, clever, impatient, handy, frugal, constant and curious reader, e-biker, chef, koi keeper, loyal and of course loving, in the many small ways he took care of those closest to him.

Due to pandemic guidelines, a private service will be held. One of his favorite charities was Father Joe’s Villages- my.neighbor.org/ donate. Any donations in his name would be well received.
