SAN DIEGO —

With great sadness, we share the loss of Jeff on January 4, 2021, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. His beloved wife, Judie, was at his side.

Jeff was raised in Great Neck, NY, by Honey & Irving Roth. After studying at Northeastern University and Suffolk University Law School, he practiced law in Boston, with a focus on civil rights and serving disenfranchised communities.

In 1980, Jeff moved to San Diego with his young family. He continued to practice law for the next 20 years, retiring to pursue other interests. He never left his Boston sports teams, remaining a devoted Celtics fan.

Jeff was known and loved within the community for his genuine warmth, interest, and kindness. Many valued his loyalty, the courage to speak up for others, astute guidance, and generous spirit.

Jeff was a devoted and supportive mate to Judie, a psychologist. They shared magic from their first meeting early in college. They also shared much joy in daughter, Jillian Dolin (Jon), and their granddaughter, Quinn, whose sweet loving spirit brought Jeff great happiness in the last months of his life.

Jeff is also survived by his brother, Roger Roth (David Bander); close nephew, David Lewin; and many longtime friends around the country.

A small service took place at El Camino Cemetery in San Diego.

Many thanks to Dr. AJ Foster for decades of outstanding care and compassion. Also, to Carol Jacofsky, LCSW of Scripps Memorial. Her help was invaluable, as were several special caregivers from 1st Meridian, who made those last months more comfortable for Jeff.

As Jeff dearly loved his dogs through the years, donations in his memory may be made to Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Please sign the Guest Book online obituaries.sandiegouniontribune.com
