SLOW START, STRONG FINISH FOR ZAGS

Drew Timme had 19 points and was one of six Gonzaga players to score in double figures as the topranked Bulldogs routed Pepperdine 97-75 on Saturday night at Malibu.

Andrew Nembhard came off the bench and finished with 17 points and eight assists, Corey Kispert scored 16 and Aaron Cook a careerhigh 15 for Gonzaga (17-0, 8-0 West Coast Conference), which has won 21 straight games dating to last season.

It is the second time this season the Bulldogs have had six or more players score in double figures.

Pepperdine jumped out to a 15-7 lead before Gonzaga took control with a 21-2 run. The outburst included 16 straight points. Timme had six points during the seven-minute span while Anton Watson and Cook added four apiece.

Colbey Ross led

Pepperdine (7-8, 3-3) with 16 points and seven assists, and Sedrick Altman scored 14.

“In the first half, our defense got us going. Pepperdine got after us a little bit early and then I thought our defense started making some plays which allowed us to get in transition,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said.

BYU 95, Pacific 87 (2OT): Brandon Averette scored 24 points with five 3pointers as the host Cougars (14-4, 5-2 WCC) topped Pacific in double overtime. Justin Moore had 18 points for the Tigers (5-4, 2-3).

No. 23 UCLA 57, Oregon State 52: Cody Riley had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and the host Bruins outlasted the pesky Beavers (8-7, 4-5).

The Bruins (13-3, 9-1) extended their home winning streak to 16 games. They have won eight of nine overall, rebounding from a onepoint defeat to Stanford last weekend that was their first league loss.

Arizona 71, California 50: James Akinjo had 13 of his 20 points in the second half, and Arizona cruised to a win over California. The Wildcats (13-4, 7-4) won their fourth of the last five games and their ninth straight over the Golden Bears (7-12, 2-10).

Utah 77, Colorado 74: Reserve 6-foot guard Alfonso Plummer scored 23 points — 21 in the final 7:49 — and visiting Utah (7-7, 4-6) rallied to stun Colorado (13-5, 7-4). Mckinley Wright IV made a pair of foul shots to give Colorado its largest lead at 6546 with 8:46 left before Utah erupted to outscore the Buffaloes 30-9 the rest of the way.

Arizona State 79, Stanford

75: Remy Martin had 23 points and six assists to lead five Arizona State players scoring in double figures as the Sun Devils (6-8, 3-5) beat visiting Stanford (10-6, 6-4).

Mountain West

Fresno State 65, New Mexico 55: Junior Ballard had 16 points as the host Bulldogs got past New Mexico (5-11, 1-11). Ballard shot 4 for 6 on 3-pointers. Deon Stroud had 13 points and seven rebounds for Fresno State (7-6, 5-6).

San Jose State 75, Air Force 62: Ralph Agee had 22 points plus 14 rebounds as the Spartans got past visiting Air Force (4-12, 2-10). Trey Smith added 21 points for the Spartans (5-11, 3-9).

USD’S game against Loyola Marymount was postponed due to a COVID-19 test result with LMU’S Tier 1 personnel.
