A 56-year-old man was killed and three other people were wounded Friday night in a shooting outside of a Mountain View liquor store, San Diego police said.

An earlier shooting Friday night in the same neighborhood also sent a man to a hospital with three gunshot wounds, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said. It was not immediately clear if the two shootings, which happened nearly two hours and more than a mile apart, were related.

The first gunshots were reported about 7:15 p.m. on Ocean View Boulevard near 37th Street, Buttle said. Officers found a 27-year-old man shot in both legs and the torso, injuries that resulted in a deflated lung and possible paralysis, police said.

The critically wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he was stabilized, police said.

There were no known witnesses to the shooting, police said.

The deadly gunfire erupted a little before 9:10 p.m. outside Jerry’s Market on the corner of Logan Avenue and South 45th Street, according to Buttle and homicide Lt. Andra Brown.

The victims “were standing out in front of the market drinking, smoking and gunshots rang out,” Brown told Onscene TV.

A man died at the scene, and two others, ages 56 and 61, were taken by medics to hospitals with non-lifethreatening injuries, Brown said.

A fourth victim, a 45year-old woman, later showed up at a hospital for treatment of at least one gunshot wound, Brown said, describing her injuries as “very serious” but likely not life-threatening.

The name of the deceased victim was not released.
