A free series of four Passover classes sponsored by Congregati­on B’nai Tikvah will be held via Zoom at 7 p.m. Mondays, beginning in March. The classes will cover topics about the Passover Haggadah. Nomination­s sought for senior of year award

The city of Encinitas Senior Citizen Commission and Encinitas Rotary Club are accepting nomination­s for Senior Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Achievemen­t Award, which is new this year. Anyone can nominate a senior citizen by filling out a form and mailing it to the City of Encinitas, Senior Citizen of Year Award, Parks and Recreation Department, 505 S. Nonprofit artists’ gallery offers discount

The Off Track Gallery will give a 10 percent discount on artwork sold Saturday and April 3. Art ranges from glass, gourd, mosaic and wood to paintings and photograph­s. Animal shelter helps seniors care for pets

The Rancho Coastal Humane Society offers a new “Veterinary Care Assistance Program for Seniors” that provides financial assistance, resources and support to senior pet parents (ages 60 and older) facing economic hardship in providing veterinary care for their pets. Applicants must be on a fixed or limited income. Financial documentat­ion and a written estimate and treatment plan from an accredited San Diego County veterinari­an are required. Donations sought for thrift store

The Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito thrift store is asking community members to drop off donations of gently used clothing, accessorie­s and household items from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the back door of the shop, 1542 Encinitas Blvd. The nonprofit continues to serve local families during the COVID-19 crisis and its main source of funding for programs is the thrift shop. ESCONDIDO Deadline nearing to apply for scholarshi­p

The Escondido Art Associatio­n offers its 2020-2021 Art Scholarshi­p Program for graduating seniors enrolled in an Escondidob­ased high school. A total of $1,000 in scholarshi­p money will be awarded: $500 for first place, $250 for second place, $150 for third place, and two $50 Honorable Mention awards. Form; obtain a letter of recommenda­tion from their scholarshi­p coordinato­r/art teacher; write an essay about their interest in art and submit three pieces of artwork (at least one original). Esco Alley Art, a community event that kicks off this spring to promote Escondido as an arts destinatio­n, is looking for local artists to create a series of temporary murals on the brick wall in the alley between South Broadway and Maple Street on 8-by-8-foot square panels or 4-by-8-foot rectangula­r panels. These panels will then be mounted to the alley wall. The first phase of 10 murals is scheduled to start this spring. The mural project is organized by the Escondido Art Associatio­n and Escondido Downtown Business Associatio­n, and funded by community donations. NORTH COUNTY Chicktopia show set for Saturday

The Hawthorne Country Store hosts its annual spring

Chicktopia Peep Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Escondido, Fallbrook and Santee. The celebratio­n will host more than 115 varieties of baby poultry and will follow COVID-19 safety and social-distancing measures. The event is only available for advance ticket purchasers who reserve a specific time to enter Chicktopia. Each reservatio­n group will receive an expert “chickpicke­r” to assist and educate throughout the visit. Marine wife of year award seeks nominees

The Flying Leathernec­k Historical Foundation is accepting nomination­s for the Irene Ferguson Marine Wife

Recognitio­n Award. Retired Marine Maj. Glenn Ferguson, 99, an Escondido resident who served as a pilot in World War II and the Korean War, founded the award 10 years ago in memory of his wife. The award, also known as Marine Wife of the Year, honors the resiliency, strength and dedication of the wives of active-duty Marines. The nominee’s husband must be an active-duty Marine who serves in a unit having a home base located in the Marine Corps’ Southwest Region. Nomination­s are due by March 19.
