SAN DIEGO — Bill Wilkins, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with our Heavenly Father on January 18th due to Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Wilkins (Lilly).

Although his youth was spent in Atlanta, and Little Rock, where he was steeped in the musical traditions of southern gospel—playing guitar and singing—he lived the rest of his life in southern California, where he met the love of his life, Joyce, with whom he raised two boys, Bret and Mark. Bill served our country proudly as an Army medic during the

Korean War, and upon returning graduated from Cal State LA, intent on being a teacher, which he did for San Diego Unified School District for over 33 years. He was a beloved elementary school teacher who was often able to connect with young people through their shared love of music, and sports.

Bill was a member of many gospel quartets throughout his life, lending his unique guitar skills, and vocals, to the various bands. This gave him the opportunity to play in churches and auditoriums throughout California, and meet many people. He will probably be best remembered, however, for his sense of humor. He was always quick to share a humorous story, or tell a joke to his friends and family.

Bill is leaving behind his wife Joyce, two sons and daughters-in-law: Bret (Cindy), Mark (Becky), nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
