SAN DIEGO — George Allen Barnett (call sign, Barney), 72, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away from natural causes on March 14.

He was born to Tommy and Lois Barnett in Charleston, SC, on June 19, 1948. Allen graduated from James Island High School in 1964 and enrolled in the Navy as an enlisted submariner. He received a B.S. from the University of South Carolina and in 1975, he attended Aviation Officer Candidate School in Jacksonvil­le and completed his naval aviation training in Pensacola, Fl.

He received his master’s degree in Computer Science at the Navy Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA in 1985. After a twentyyear commitment as a Commander and navigator, he retired from the Navy.

Allen loved to have fun and his passion for life was infectious. He loved the beach, surfing, fishing, golf, camping, traveling around the United States in his motorhome with Deb and their three dogs, flying F-14 jets, hosting family backyard parties, and sitting by a bonfire. His generosity was unmatched and he enjoyed volunteeri­ng at church. He loved his dog, Simon, and spending time with friends.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Deb Barnett.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth; and her husband, Matt; and by his grandchild­ren, Wesley and Quinn. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Barnett; his wife, Sue; and family of San Diego, CA.

He will be greatly missed by his extended family and friends both in Charleston, SC and San Diego, CA.
