SAN DIEGO — On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, Judith Shimminsalonius passed away with her family at her bedside. Born in Nebraska on July 1, 1943. In 1945 she came to Pacific Beach with her parents Wes and Helen Severson. Judy graduated from Mission Bay High; she met her husband Larry Shimmin while working as a secretary at Copley Newspapers. Following Larry’s death, she became involved in the Clairemont Hilltoppers Little League (CHLL) and met her husband, Bill Salonius.

Judy spent decades devoting time to CHLL as a parent, grandparent, and most memorably as the snack bar manager. Whether it was sliding the candy bar to the kid who reached into his pocket and was 37¢ short or filling the nachos tray with perfectly-arranged chips so that each one got lined with cheese, Judy’s influence was seen everywhere at CHLL for years. Judy’s dry wit and her fondness for kids will not be forgotten. She was proudly added to the CHLL Hall of Fame in 2015, and the current scoreboard on the Padres field is dedicated to her and Bill for their many years of commitment to the league.

Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband Bill, siblings Susan (Chuck) and Wayne (Janet), children Todd (Brandy), Kevin, Michelle (Scot), and David, several nieces and nephews, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 25 at 2 PM at El Camino Memorial Park (5600 Carroll Canyon Rd), followed by a celebration of life at Cadman Rec Center (4280 Avati Dr). Donations can be made to CHLL (P.O. Box 17349 San Diego, CA 92177).
