-

A 16-year-old girl died Friday afternoon when the car she was a passenger in slammed into stopped traffic and overturned near Seaworld, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. on the Ingraham Street bridge from Ski Beach, near Dana Landing Road in Mission Bay, according to police.

Investigators said the victim was in the front seat passenger of a 2008 Ford Fusion, driven by another 16year-old girl, that was headed south on Ingraham Street. As the driver crested the bridge, she noticed traffic stopped in front of her and swerved into the other lane.

The Fusion struck a Ford Escape SUV and a Nissan Sentra sedan and flipped over, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

The victim, who was not identified, sustained major head trauma and died at the scene, Heims said.

The driver was uninjured, as was the 23-year-old man driving the Sentra, according to Heims. The Escape’s driver, a 26-year-old woman, complained of pain in her face.
