SAN DIEGO — Husband, father, uncle, grandfather, greatgrandfather, teacher, chemist, high school counselor, and decorated World War II veteran. Called to the Lord on February 8th 2021. Louis, a native San Diegan was raised in Logan Heights by his parents Joseph and Paula, sisters Margarita and Lucia, and his beloved brother Joseph, whom all proceeded him in death.

Louie attended Sherman Elementary, Memorial Junior High school, and graduated from

St. Augustine in 1944. Given permission to finish high school, he was immediately inducted into the army, and was a radioman at the start of the Okinawa invasion. After so many medics were killed or wounded he was asked to be a medic because he worked for a veterinary hospital in high school. His unit, the 96th division, known as the deadeyes, faced some of the fiercest resistance in the bloodiest battle of the pacific campaign. Louie’s unit received a presidents citation for their bravery, and he received the bronze star for rescuing wounded soldiers behind enemy lines.

After returning home from the war, he met the love of his life, Ofelia

Moreno. They had one son Louis Anthony (wife Judy), grandson Louis Jonathan (wife Nisha), granddaughter Danielle, and great-granddaughter Alexis.

Louie continued his education while working full time. He graduated from the University of San Diego in 1970 after earning his teaching and counseling degrees. He worked at Montgomery high school where he mentored many students who became life-long friends.

Louie will be remembered for his kindness, patience, and sense of humor. He enjoyed a good laugh with his friends. His hobbies included traveling and playing golf. This hero will be laid to rest on March 30th at Miramar national cemetery.
