E. R. (Roy) Noetzel, age 95, passed away in March 2021. He was born May 1925 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Dora and Ewald Noetzel.

He was a beloved father, husband, grandfathe­r, and great-grandfathe­r.

Roy joined the U.S. Navy at an early age to serve his country and travel the world.

While in the Navy as an LTJG in Hawaii, Roy met his wife Ruth, who was a school teacher from the Midwest teaching on the island. They were married in 1950. Their first residence after Roy returned from overseas was Hunter’s Point Naval Station, CA. They spent time in Illinois and Wisconsin for several years before returning to San Diego, CA.

After nearly ten years in the U. S. Navy, Roy joined the U.S. Naval Reserve while stationed in San Diego, CA. Roy attained the rank of Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve and retired with 30 years of dedicated service in 1985.

Roy was a very ambitious individual and graduated from Northweste­rn University in Evanston, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1955 and a Master’s degree in Education in 1958.

Roy had an outstandin­g career in education both in the San Diego and Poway Unified School Districts.

He spent 35 years in education, with 23 in the Poway Unified School District.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, caring for his dog, Milo, and reminiscin­g about his Military career. He kept his sense of humor to the end.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and his son Jeffrey.

He is survived by his children, Brian (Kim), Scott (Viviane), Kristy (Brad), Kay (Pat), daughterin-law Susan, and his grandchild­ren, Melissa, Todd, Brad, Ben, Hannah, Nick, Vini, Kendall, Tyler, Kelly, Whitney, Carly, and Lindsey. Greatgrand­children: Matthew, Mason, Owen, Jennifer and Jeffrey.
