SAN DIEGO —

Bea Grace Rogers completed her walk in this life on March 22, just short of her 105th birthday. At age 19 she bought a one-way ticket from her home in Huntington Beach to San Diego, and never returned. She met the love of her life, Dee J. Rogers, and three months later they married. Dee later became the first native-born SDFD fire chief.

Bea was a true Renaissance woman. She was a painter, a poet, a singer, a ballroom dancer, a bridge player, a fabulous cook, a creator of fashions, an avid reader and a worldwide traveler.

Always ahead of the times, in the late 1950s she became a successful female entrepreneur. She opened her own women’s clothing store, the iconic Beacar’s Fashions, in North Park and a few years later the second location in Lake Murray.

Bea and Dee were longtime residents of Mission Beach, and Bea greatly enjoyed her 15 years of life at Wesley Palms in independent living.

She is survived by her son Michael Dee Rogers (Sheryl) and daughter Maurine Cookie Miller (Jon), six grandchildren: Michael (Joy), Steve, and Jonathan (Jennifer) Rogers, and Karen Burke, Leslie Miller (Maureen Tobin), and Meghan

Fondow (Steve), as well as nine great-grandchildren: Heather, Hunter, Shannon, Ella, and Colton Rogers, Keelin and Mitch Burke, and Lucia and Marlena Fondow.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, grandson-in-law Patrick Burke, and many treasured friends.

The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful staff and many new friends she made at Wesley Palms and the amazing staff at Avantgarde Senior Living, as well as Comfort and Peace Hospice for the care they provided in her last month of life.

Gift memorials may be sent to The Salvation Army: https://give-cas. salvationarmy.org/give or Wesley Palms Resident Assistance, 2402 Loring St., San Diego 92109.

A celebration of life will occur on a future date.
