George Lewis Shillinger, Sr.

George Lewis Shillinger Jr. was the son of George Lewis Shillinger Sr. and Catherine Ashton Shillinger. George was born in Easton, Pennsylvan­ia and graduated from Easton High School in 1947. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1952, and completed flight school in Pensacola, Florida in 1953. He attended the Naval Postgradua­te School in Monterey, CA and completed an MS in Engineerin­g at UC Berkeley in 1965. He was a federal employee for over 43 years, first as an aeronautic­al engineer at NASA Ames Research Center and later as a Supervisor of Shipbuildi­ng at the National Steel and Shipbuildi­ng Company in San Diego, CA.

George met his beloved wife, Donna Gay Shillinger (d. 2019), in San Diego, CA. George and Donna were married at the San Diego First Presbyteri­an Church on August 10, 1957. George was a devoted husband to Donna through sixty-four years of marriage and a loving father to his children.

George is survived by his three children and their families. These include Donna Maria Shillinger and William Kelley Tuttle IV, their children, William and Sydney; George Lewis Shillinger V and Christine

O’rourke Shillinger, and their children Siena, George, and John (“Jack”); and Rosetta Marie Shillinger and John Barrows Moule. He is predecease­d by his two older sisters, Anna (Nancy) Volz and Catherine Shillinger.

George’s passing leaves a huge void in our hearts, but his spirit will always be with us. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held on April 11 from 15:00-16:00 at the Beardsley Mitchell Funeral Home, 1818 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., San Diego, CA 92107. A visitation will be held on the same day from 13:00-14:00 and from 1600- 17:00. The burial service is scheduled on Tuesday, April 13 at 12:30 at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego, CA 92122.
