‘VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE’
THE SAN DIEGO FOOD BANK HAS SIMPLIFIED DONATIONS FOR THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is encouraging the community to use its online giving platform to make food donations for families in need this holiday season. The cutting-edge technology enables donors to purchase food items virtually online via a third party platform linked to the Food Bank’s website. “We love the Virtual Food Drive because it’s an easy and efficient way for donors to give food to the Food Bank for families in need this holiday season,” said Food Bank Interim CEO, Casey Castillo. “Supporters simply select food items from the screen, scan the items on a virtual checkout register just like at the supermarket selfcheckout. After they’ve finished selecting and scanning food items, they then pay for the items securely via credit card. With the funds raised, the Food Bank purchases food on the wholesale food market. It’s rather brilliant technology.” The Virtual Food Drive also is an excellent giving platform for schools, businesses, and faith-based groups. Food Bank staff can customize an organization’s Virtual Food Drive with a logo or graphic image that is placed in the central shop hanging sign. And the Food Bank then provides the group with a unique URL link that can be shared with supporters and customers. Simply visit the Food Bank’s website and select and pay for food items with your credit card securely online using a smartphone, tablet or computer. The Virtual Food Drive is great for businesses, civic groups, schools, and faith-based groups to donate food over the holidays. The Food Bank can customize a Virtual Food Drive with your organization’s logo, set up internal competitions between departments, classes, and groups while giving food drive leaders the ability to monitor your organization’s progress.
