Salvador Cantu

CARLSBAD — Salvador Cantu passed away from health complicati­ons at the age of 90 on December 4, 2021. His wife and children were at his side in Carlsbad, California.

Salvador was born in Mercedes, Texas. His parents, Rafael and Gregoria, moved the family to Weslaco, Texas, where he attended school and worked picking cotton and seasonal fieldwork.

His military career began at the age of 14. He served in the United States Army Indianhead Infantry Division and gained the title Sergeant First Class and was awarded the Combat Infantryma­n’s Badge. He was awarded several service medals for his heroic actions, including Missing in Action (MIA) in Korea.

After his discharged from the military, he moved to Carlsbad,

CA, and worked many constructi­ons projects around Carlsbad. Salvador met and married the love of his life, Virginia Hernandez; they had five children.

Salvador was a family man who loved people and gatherings. He enjoyed attending the Cantu Family Reunions for the past 30 years, traveling, and walking around town.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Daniel Cantu. Also, four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia, daughters Angelina Cruz (Ben), Belinda Mouser (Kenneth), Julia Cantu (Charles), and son Adrian Cantu. Along with 8 Grandchild­ren and 4 Great-grandchild­ren.

Salvador will be deeply missed by numerous loving family and friends. He was a true hero to all who knew him and will be greatly missed and never forgotten. He was an active member of the Vista Elks, Laborers Union Local 89, Veterans of Underage Military Service, and Disabled American Veterans.

Funeral Services will be Monday, December 27, 2021, from 4:00-8:00 pm for Visitation at Eternal Hills Mortuary Park, Oceanside, CA. On Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 10:30 am for the Rosary and Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, Carlsbad, CA. Following the Burial at Eternal Hills Mortuary Park with full military honors.
