March 14, 1952 - June 26, 2022

SAN DIEGO — Michael Fager passed away unexpectedly on June 26 at age 70. He was born in New York to John and Jean Fager, before moving to the Bay Park neighborhood where he resided for most of his life. He attended the School of the Madeleine, University of San Diego High School, and the University of San Diego. Mike was a fixture in San Diego tennis circles, from youth tournaments to a full scholarship to USD. A proud Torero, he was a member of the 1974 NCAA National Championship winning team. He was a founding and active member of the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club where he continued his love of tennis, a good party, and swimming with family, friends and most recently his water aerobics team.

Mike owned and operated an independent car rental and leasing company before transitioning into aviation which was his passion; he was well regarded for his expertise in jet charter. Mike meant so much to so many. He was known for his sense of humor, devotion to the SAN DIEGO Chargers, hosting epic backyard barbeques, and being a great friend. He’ll also be remembered for his dedication (and struggle) to perfect his golf game, his standard post-dinner party lineup of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Dance” DVD followed by the chase scene from Bullitt, and his catchphrase, “Hang On Everybody!” Above all, he was most proud of his family who will miss him terribly. Mike is survived by his wife Amy, son Alex Fager and wife Millie, daughter Caity Clark and husband Mike, and beloved grandson Henry Michael Clark. He is also survived by sisters Patricia Fager, Barbara Fager, Kathleen Bransom, and Bernadette Garzone. His passing leaves a huge hole in the lives of his family, neighbors, and many lifelong friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Honor Flight Network.
