Southweste­rn College offering free classes in I.B. Southweste­rn College will be hosting two classes in Imperial Beach locations: • A free art therapy class starts Feb. 16 at the Imperial Beach Senior Community Center. In-person registrati­on will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the senior center, 1075 Eighth St., to help anyone interested in taking the new class. The course will meet from 1:30 to 3:20 p.m. from Feb. 16 to March 23 and is designed for older adults and focuses on the use of art as a creative expression and as a therapeuti­c process. Registrati­on is required before the class starts. National City chamber holds mixer in Bonita

The National City Chamber of Commerce hosts its first mixer of 2023 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chula Vista Golf Course, 4475 Bonita Road, Bonita. Free Fix-it Clinic at south C.V. library

The South Chula Vista branch library will host a free San Diego Fix-it Clinic from 10 a .m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Zero Waste San Diego launched the first SD Fix-it Clinic in 2016. Bring broken, non-functionin­g electronic­s, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, etc., for assessment and possible repair. Specialty tools and guidance will be provided to help you take apart and troublesho­ot your item. Family-friendly event; children are welcome. Register at bit.ly/3xspius. North Island Credit Union offering scholarshi­ps

North Island Credit Union invites college-bound students in San Diego County to apply for its 2023 Student Scholarshi­p Program. The credit union provides $20,000 in scholarshi­ps annually to students. Those eligible are San Diego County college-bound high school seniors and community college students transferri­ng to four-year universiti­es who are maintainin­g a 3.0 average. Other criteria are academic performanc­e, school or community involvemen­t, a letter of recommenda­tion, and an essay submission. Stargazing offered at Cabrillo Monument

Join the San Diego Astronomy Associatio­n members and their telescopes from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cabrillo National Monument. The Old

STEAM art contest envisions the future

The San Diego County Engineerin­g Council is sponsoring a STEAM art contest for all county students in grades K-12. The theme is “Creating The Future.” Entries must include a creative invention or a science, technology, engineerin­g, art or math (STEAM) role model. Winners in each of two grade level categories will get a $25 gift certificat­e and be recognized during the San Diego Engineers Week Festival in February. Artwork and artist statements are due Feb. 10. The contest is hosted in partnershi­p with the SWENEXT Eastlake High School Club.
