SAN DIEGO, CA — Noah Jacob Yates, 75, of Mira Mesa, CA passed away on July 15, 2023 at home after battling Alzheimer’s.
Born in Chillicothe, OH, he was proud of his small town roots. Noah served in the Navy in the Vietnam War. He met his cherished wife Nancy at a church dance in San Diego and they married in 1969. Bought a home in Mira Mesa and got politically active, fighting developers from building a freeway in 1978 through Penasquitos Canyon. Co-hosted Penasquitos Park Day to grow support for Proposition C which passed, preserving the canyon and wildlife for future generations.
In 1984, Noah founded Troop 1212 as Scoutmaster, loving the outdoors, especially hiking and biking. The troop thrives to this day with over 100 Eagle Scouts, including his three sons. He attended Wood Badge and was honored with the prestigious Silver Beaver award for his decades of service to scouting and the community.
Noah had a 43 year career with Pacific Bell/ AT&T. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Nancy and spending time with his grandchildren.
Noah is the beloved husband of Nancy for 54 years and loving father of his three sons Jacob, Alex and Nick, three daughtersin-law, Deborah, Sharon, and Estreanda, seven grandchildren Greg, Kat, Kaelan, Siena, Braven, Titan, Zaniya and greatgrandson, Charlie. Noah is survived by his sister, Ricky and husband, Sam Dennis, of Chillicothe, Ohio.
A celebration of his life was held July 29. His interment with military honors was July 31 at Miramar National Cemetery. His life was a testament to his dedication to God, family, service to his community and country, and adventurous travels. His tombstone reads “Thank you God for all the fun we’ve had.”
