VETERANS EVENTS, HOLIDAY MARKET AND MORE IN SD

We're wrapping up Veteran's Day weekend today, so all over San Diego there are events to honor local veterans, past and present, for their service to our country.

Other activities around town this week include a free Play Day at the Museum of Contempora­ry Art, a unique holiday market in Balboa Park and a charity bike ride followed by craft beers at a local brewery.

San Diego Veterans Day Parade

The annual San Diego Veterans Day Parade takes place at 11 a.m. today in front of the county administra­tion building on Harbor Drive.

Watch veterans of the armed forces past and present and then enjoy a bite at one of the cafes and eateries that line the parade route.

East Village SALUTES

After the parade you can also honor veterans at the first annual East Village SALUTES event from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. today in the Ballpark Village in downtown San Diego.

Presented by the East Village Associatio­n, the celebratio­n aims to honor those who serve and have served in the armed forces and showcase how veterans continue to serve the downtown community.

The free event includes veteran-owned vendor booths, live musical performanc­es and kid-friendly activities. The Marine Band San Diego will perform between 2 and 3 p.m.

East Village SALUTES is open to the public and all ages are invited to attend.

Play Day at MCASD

Play Day at the Museum of Contempora­ry Art, San Diego takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the museum at 700 Prospect Street, La Jolla.

The free event includes admission to the museum and begins with a tour of the galleries. Kids will create colorful mask inspired by “Eleanor Antin & My Barbarian” before parading with their masks through Axline Court, Art Park and the Sculpture Garden.

The day also includes interactiv­e music, snacks and other kid-friendly fun.

Friendship Garden holiday market

The Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park will host a Holiday Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18.

The market will feature food booths, a variety of vendors and artisans selling unique holiday gifts, and a fun activity where you can create your own traditiona­l Japanese craft.

Bikes and Beer San Diego

A charity bike ride to support efforts to improve cycling conditions in San Diego will take place Saturday, starting with coffee and pastries at Alesmith Brewing in Miramar.

Cyclists can choose distances ranging from 15 to 45 miles. There will be snacks along the route, followed by beers and eats and other fun at the finish line, which is also at Alesmith Brewing where the ride began.
