SAN MARCOS — Carol Stubbs, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. She was 94 years old.

Carol was born to Albert and Dora Sauders, the youngest of 7 children. Her vocal talent was quickly recognized, and she performed for local radio stations, churches and community functions. After high school, she earned a scholarship to Jordan Conservatory of Music, where she met the love of her life, John Stubbs. They married in 1950 and moved to Coronado, California, where Carol was a public school music teacher. They moved to Redlands, California, in1954, and joined the First United Methodist Church. Carol became the choir director of their church and taught elementary school while raising three small children. The family moved to Orland, California, in 1967, joined the Methodist Church and Carol found great joy participating with the Chico State University Music Department and local Oratorio Associations. She was a featured soloist in community concerts, light operas and numerous church functions. The family relocated to Escondido, California, in 1971, joined the First United Methodist Church and were active members for over 50 years. Carol enjoyed singing in the chancel choir and ringing in the bell choir, as well as performing with the San Diego Opera and the North County Oratorio Association.

Music was important to Carol, but her greatest loves were her husband of 72 years, her children and their growing families. Each grandchild and great-grandchild was welcomed with love and awe. Her gentle spirit and devotion will have a lasting impact on their lives forever.

Carol is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John. She is survived by her children: Eric (Trudi) Stubbs, Mary (David) Bunker, Rich (Joanie) Stubbs, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 10am on January 27 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 S. Juniper, Escondido. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity Scholarship Fund, in honor of Carol Stubbs.
