CARLABAD, CA — Betty was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 31, 1924. She passed away at the age of 99 at Pacifica House Hospice in Carlsbad, California.

She grew up in Parma, Ohio with her two sisters, Marion and Margie. Her parents, Margaret and T.D. Brown, struggled during the depression to keep their family afloat. Marge often worked two jobs just to put food on the table.

Betty loved telling stories of her adventures growing up in a small town with her sisters. They may not have had a lot of money, but there was lots of love! Betty became an expert seamstress and could create beautiful outfits from old clothes. She was very athletic, excelling in track and field and ice skating. At 17, she was crowned Parma Ice Queen and was quite a beauty!

She met Louis Weitz and relocated to Southern California in 1947, where they were married and raised two daughters. Betty was always on the go, either ice dancing with her group at the local ice rink, bowling in the school league, making clothes for her girls, or taking on rather extensive decorating projects around her home.

She was the world’s best mom! Active in all school activities, as well as keeping a perfect home, cooking delicious meals, and always welcoming friends and neighbors to join them. Her kindness and generous spirit, as well as her natural beauty, made everyone who knew her love her, and love being around her. She always had a smile on her beautiful face.

When Betty and Lou retired, they moved to Carlsbad in 1974 and thoroughly enjoyed this new chapter in their lives. They were avid golfers and played at Torrey Pines regularly. Betty loved living in Carlsbad and made many friends in her community. All her neighbors loved her. She always made the best out of any situation, and never let anything get her down.

She was one-of-a-kind and will be missed. Rest in peace Betty, and know that everyone who knew you loved you.

Memorial open house will be held at Altamira One Club House on March 9, 2024 beginning at noon.
