Chamber, city sponsor active shooter training
The Ready Carlsbad Business Alliance — the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the city of Carlsbad and the business community — will hold a “Stop the Bleed and Active Shooter Training” symposium from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. March 13. Hosted by Viasat Inc., the event aims to prepare bystanders to respond, should a mass casualty incident occur. Such training is important because the public will be on hand before law enforcement can arrive. The Trauma Research and Education Foundation will provide hands-on Stop The Bleed training. Dr. Sara G. Gilman, co-founder of Coherence Associates, will speak on how psychological preparedness can help a bystander deal with a mass casualty incident and its aftermath. Also, FBI North County agent Brady Finta will discuss the role of the FBI during such an incident. Register at carlsbad.org by Tuesday. Tickets are $25 and include breakfast and Stop The Bleed kits while supplies last.
