San Diego airport must expand at present site

- Eric M. Nelson San Diego

Re “Our airport is too small for real innovation” (Feb. 2): Here we go again. There are some quite misinformed people pushing for San Diego International Airport (SAN) to be relocated to Miramar.

Thus far there have been two advisory votes on the proposal, each one having the proviso that it could happen should the Department of Defense declare MCAS Miramar as excess property. Both votes tanked.

Some people will recall that DOD did just that back in 1953. However, the city said thanks but no thanks because Miramar was “too far from the served population.” The letter writer incorrectly asserted that Miramar is underutilized. Not true. All Marine air assets on the West Coast were moved to the base 25 years ago. The base is buzzing with activity.

One letter writer got it right when he said “the Marines ain’t going anywhere.”

Truth is, SAN users, tourists and business travelers alike love it because of its location, just minutes from nearly every popular destination. Bottom line is that we’re stuck with what we’ve got. Increasing the capacity of SAN is the only “viable” option.

Trump will exploit Biden’s family ties

Re “Vote Joe Biden for president to unite America” (Feb. 2): In the awkward pivot to endorse Joe Biden after your first choice Pete Buttigieg dropped out of the primary race just before Super Tuesday, you fail to mention Biden’s looming liability as a pick for the Democratic nomination.

Biden has a glaring Beltway-insider apparent conflict of interest for having permitted his son, Hunter, to make a lot of money while serving on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma during the time Vice President Biden was himself President Obama’s point man on Ukraine.

Some candidate should enlist Adm. Mcraven

Re “We can’t let true patriots be silenced” (Feb. 27): Could not agree more with the letter regarding not letting the patriots be silenced. He mentioned Adm. William Mcraven and his op-ed in support of recently dismissed Vice Adm. Joe Maguire.

This is, by far, not the first time Mcraven has spoken out about our president and his total lack of values and commitment to country. He spoke so powerfully last October on CNN’S Jake Tapper show I found
