VILLANOVA TOPS SETON IN BIG EAST SHOWDOWN

Saddiq Bey scored 20 points and No. 14 Villanova overcame some late freethrow shooting woes to prevent No. 8 Seton Hall from clinching the Big East regular-season title with a 79-77 victory on Wednesday night in Newark, N.J.

Justin Moore and Jermaine Samuels added 19 points apiece and Jeremiah Robinson-earl had nine points and 11 rebounds as the Wildcats (23-8, 12-5) opened the possibilit­y of the league having a three-way tie for first place.

Collin Gillespie added 12 points for Villanova, which kept the game close by missing seven free throws in the final 1:03.

Sandro Mamukelash­vili led Seton Hall (21-8, 13-4) with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Quincy Mcknight added 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists and Myles Powell had 14 points and eight assists in their final home game.

No. 1 Kansas 75, TCU 66: Udoka Azubuike walked gingerly into Allen Fieldhouse on his sore ankle and proceeded to score a careerhigh 31 points with 14 rebounds, leading Kansas (27-3, 16-1 Big 12) to a victory over TCU (16-14, 7-10) to clinch at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season title. The win was No. 500 for coach Bill Self at Kansas, ranking second at the school behind only building namesake Phog Allen.

No. 3 Dayton 84, Rhode Island 57: Obi Toppin scored 20 points and Trey Landers had 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead Dayton (28-2,

No. 7 Florida State 73, Notre Dame 71: Trent Forrest’s putback with 3.8 seconds left capped a ferocious late charge as Florida State (25-5, 15-4) edged Notre Dame (1812, 9-10) on the road to move closer to an Atlantic Coast Conference title.

No. 11 Creighton 91, Georgetown 76: Mitch Ballock made a season-high six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points, and Creighton (23-7, 12-5 Big East) rode one of its best shooting games of the season to a win over Georgetown (15-15, 5-12) in Omaha, Neb. The Bluejays hit a season-high 17 3-pointers on 36 attempts.

Texas A&M 78, No. 17 Auburn 75: Josh Nebo scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half and Texas A&M (15-14, 9-8 Southeaste­rn Conference) survived a frenetic last-minute rally attempt to upset Auburn (25-5, 12-5). Wendell Mitchell added 14 points and a key 3pointer to help the Aggies pick up their fifth league road win.

No. 22 Virginia 46, Miami 44: Kihei Clark made both ends of a one-and-one with eight seconds left to provide the winning margin as visiting Virginia (22-7, 14-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) held off Miami (14-15, 6-13) for its seventh victory in a row.

No. 24 Wisconsin 63, Northweste­rn 48: Nate Reuvers scored 11 points as host Wisconsin (20-10, 13-6 Big Ten) struggled through a poor offensive performanc­e in a win over Northweste­rn (7-22, 2-17). The win moved the Badgers into a three-way for first place in the Big Ten.

New Mexico 79, San Jose State 66: Vance Jackson had 26 points and 12 rebounds as New Mexico (19-13) beat San Jose State (7-24) in the first round in Las Vegas. The Lobos play second-seeded Utah State in the quarterfin­als today.

Wyoming 80, Colorado State 74: Kwane Marble II scored 20 points to lead Wyoming (8-23) past Colorado State (20-12). The Cowboys play third-seeded Nevada tonight.
