COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY

-

The college football schedule is still looking light, with the SEC a week away from starting and the Big 12 and ACC still just warming up. And it got even lighter Friday when the Baylorhouston game, scheduled less than a week ago, was canceled after Baylor said it was unable to meet COVID-19 roster thresholds set by the Big 12. The game was scheduled less than a week ago after Baylor’s game last Saturday against Louisiana Tech was canceled after Tech had widespread COVID-19 positive tests, and Houston’s game against Memphis was postponed after the Tigers had numerous players test positive. Earlier Friday, Florida Atlantic’s opener against Georgia Southern was postponed following the results of FAU’S COVID-19 testing Thursday.

Navy (0-1) at Tulane (1-0), 9 a.m., Ch. 10: The Midshipmen look to rebound after they were crushed 55-3 on Labor Day by BYU. The Green Wave began with a 27-24 win over South Alabama thanks to two fourth-quarter touchdowns. This is the AAC opener for both teams.

Tulsa (0-0) at Oklahoma State (0-0), 9 a.m., ESPN: Cowboys star Chuba Hubbard led the nation in rushing last year, breaking 2,000 yards. He had an interesting offseason, calling out his head coach. The junior will face tougher tests than Tulsa, but here’s a chance for him to get off to good start and grab some attention before all those star QBS threaten to push him into the background.

No. 14 Central Florida (0-0) at Georgia Tech (1-0), 12:30 p.m., Ch. 10: The Knights lost three games by a total of seven points last year while finishing 10-3. They open today against the Yellow Jackets, a 16-13 winner last week over Florida State behind freshman QB Jeff Sims, who passed for 277 yards.

No. 17 Miami (1-0) at No. 18 Louisville (1-0), 4:30 p.m., Ch. 10: The only game matching ranked teams on the schedule is the ACC opener for both. The Hurricanes unleashed a powerful running game with Houston grad transfer D’eriq King last week, going for 337 rushing yards in a win over UAB. Louisville’s Micale Cunningham flashed star potential after taking over last year for the Cardinals and then threw for 343 yards and three TDS in an opening win over Western Kentucky.
