The Sharp Rees-Stealy Urgent Care center in La Mesa and the Sharp-Rees-Stealy Medical Group in El Cajon are closing for good this weekend and heading to new offices in Santee.

The urgent care center will close at 8 p.m. Saturday as part of an overall move of the group to the new medical center at 8701 Cuyamaca St. in Santee. That will open at 8 a.m. Sunday. The current 13-room urgent care will increase to 22 examination rooms at its new home.

While the urgent care portion of Sharp-Rees-Stealy in La Mesa is moving, the center’s primary care physicians and specialists, and radiology, laboratory and pharmacy will remain at its current location.

The Sharp-Rees-Stealy location on Broadway Avenue in El Cajon is set to close Friday evening.

The new $43.2 million center in Santee will offer the expanded urgent care, primary, specialty care, pharmacy, laboratory, mammography, optical shop, radiology, rehabilitation services, and diabetes and nutrition education. The new building is three stories tall with 86,000 square feet of space. It is on Cuyamaca where it meets Buena Vista Avenue off state Route 52. It is also close to state Route 125.

“There is incredible anticipation and excitement for the opening of this facility,” said Stacey Hrountas, CEO of Sharp Rees-Stealy medical centers. “With its many features, we hope this new medical center will be a tremendous asset to East County. As we continue to navigate through these challenging times, we are looking forward to bringing our coordinated care model to Santee and providing a huge boost and dose of energy to this growing region.”

The Santee site was designed and built by DPR Construction. It features drought-friendly landscaping, original art and wall sculptures. Its parking lot has more than 400 spaces and includes electric car charging stations.

Sharp-Rees-Stealy is holding a virtual open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.Oct. 10 that will feature a virtual behindthe-scenes tour, Q&A sessions with Dr. Keith Fischer and Dr. Stacey Coleman, a cooking demonstration with Dr. Angelica Neison, a live exercise session with a physical therapist, Medicare information and more.
