Manziel can attest.

The Longhorns are

the highest-ranked team in the Big 12 but they needed a miraculous comeback to escape Texas Tech with a victory last week. Now they welcome TCU, which has owned Texas since joining the Big 12, going 6-2. For Texas to truly be back, coach Tom

Herman needs to have the Longhorns routinely beating these conference rivals that don’t have nearly the resources he has in Austin. Texas QB Sam Ehlinger has accounted for 11 touchdowns in two

No. 13 Texas A&M (1-0, 1-0 SEC) at No. 2 Alabama (1-0, 1-0), 12:30 p.m., Ch. 8:

Kellen Mond is no Johnny Football, but leading the Aggies past the Tide could be a program-changer for third-year coach

Jimbo Fisher. The fourth-year starter is a very good, if inconsistent, player. He has passed for 44 touchdowns and run for 15 more in the last two years under Fisher.

Expecting a major breakthrough at this point might be a stretch, but the opportunity is there for him to have a moment that makes Heisman runs — as Johnny

No. 25 Memphis (1-0, 0-0 AAC) at SMU (3-0, 0-0), 12:30 p.m., ESPN2:

Memphis is playing for the first time in four weeks, since a win over Arkansas State in its

Sept. 5 season opener before having to postpone two games because of COVID-19 cases in its program. The Tigers have won the last six games in the series against

SMU, which was 8-0 last season before a 54-48 loss in Memphis last October. In a head-to-head meeting last November,

SMU’s Shane Buechele had 456 yards and

Memphis’ Brady White 350 in the win.

White had 280 yards passing with four touchdowns in this year’s opener.

Buechele has 852 yards and seven TDs in three games this year.

No. 7 Auburn (1-0, 1-0 SEC) at No. 5 Georgia (1-0, 1-0), 4 p.m., ESPN:

The rivalry dates to 1892 and it typically gets played in November. Even before the SEC revised its schedule to an all-conference slate to deal with the possibility of pandemic disruptions, the Bulldogs and

Tigers were set to play the earliest date they ever have — Oct. 10. The new schedule pushed Auburn-Georgia up another week. The major storyline will be who plays quarterback for the Bulldogs. Georgia’s offense needed a while to get rolling last week at Arkansas, but clicked in the second half behind former walk-on Stetson Bennett. This week, former five-star recruit and USC transfer J.T. Daniels has been medically cleared to play for Georgia. Daniels started as a freshman for USC in 2018 and injured his knee in last season’s opener. The Tigers have lost six of seven to Georgia, including three straight.

No. 18 Oklahoma (1-1, 0-1 Big 12) at Iowa State (1-1, 1-0), 4:30 p.m., Ch. 10:

Ames for the first time since 1960.

It’s still

early, but this is a must win for the Sooners, whose hopes for a fourth straight

College Football Playoff appearance took a big hit with a home loss to unranked

Kansas State. Iowa State, which lost by a point in Norman last year after rallying from 21 points down in the final quarter, is looking to finish the job and beat OU in
