Important Nov. election dates, deadlines, details

-

Pandemic-related public health concerns will make voting in San Diego County this fall much different from previous years. For instance, there will be many fewer polling places than in past elections, so your assigned location will likely be different.

Important dates

Oct. 5: First day to vote by mail. If you haven’t received your mail ballot by Wednesday, call the Registrar of Voters Office at (858) 565-5800.

Oct. 19: Last day to register to vote.

Oct. 31-Nov. 2: Polls open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nov. 3: Election Day; polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Methods of voting

Voting by mail: Seal your completed ballot in the postage-paid envelope, sign it, date it and mail it through the U.S. Postal Service. Mail it no later than Oct. 27 to ensure timely delivery. Your ballot must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the registrar of voters no later than Nov. 20.

Mail ballot drop-off: You may also deposit your signed, sealed ballot at any of the 125 mail ballot drop-off locations now through Election Day. Visit sdvote.com for these locations and their hours of operation. Or you may drop off your ballot at any polling place or at the Registrar of Voters Office at 5600 Overland Ave. in Kearny Mesa.

Where’s my ballot?: Voters can track the status of their mail ballot by signing up at sdvote.com to receive email, text or voice notifications.

Voting in person: The county’s 235 “super poll” locations will be open for four days, Oct. 31 through Nov. 3. Your assigned polling place is highlighted in yellow on the back cover of your sample ballot and voter information pamphlet. Or you can go to sdvote.com to confirm your location. In-person voting is also available at the registrar’s office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What to expect at the polls: Voters should wear a face covering and follow social distancing guidelines.
