TOMMY PHAM IS RECOVERING AFTER STABBING

Padres outfielder Tommy Pham was injured Sunday night outside a strip club and underwent surgery for a stab wound in his lower back.

Padres outfielder Tommy Pham was injured in an altercatio­n Sunday night outside a Midway District strip club and underwent surgery for a stab wound in his lower back, the team and player said Monday.

San Diego police said Pham was stabbed about 10:35 Sunday night outside Pacers Showgirls Internatio­nal, on Midway Drive west of Rosecrans Street.

According to two people who spoke with Pham, the incident happened when Pham was leaving the club and came upon an argument occurring near his car. According to one of the people, Pham was attacked after asking the people involved in the argument, whom he did not know, to get away from his car.

Police described the injury as a “slash wound” that was not life-threatenin­g. No organs were damaged, and Pham received stitches to close the wound that pierced all three layers of skin.

“I’d like to thank the incredible medical staff at UC San Diego Health for taking such great care of me last night,” Pham said in a statement released by the team. “I truly appreciate the hard work of the (San Diego Police Department) as well as

No definite plan has been establishe­d for Clevinger, who left his NL Division Series start after one inning. He is expected to undergo further examinatio­n this week after not throwing since Tuesday.

He spoke after his last start about adjusting his mechanics and “getting my body more bilaterall­y equal” as part of the recovery. Others close to the situation have mentioned arthroscop­ic surgery to clean up the elbow with the presumptio­n being he also would recover in plenty of time for spring training.
