Jenkins, Musgrove lead in City Council election

In the San Marcos City Council race, early election returns released shortly after polls closed at 8 p.m. showed incumbent Councilwom­an Sharon Jenkins leading challenger Alan Ger a ci in the race for District 3.

Jenkins was elected to the Governing Board of the San Marcos Unified School District in 1998 and remained on the Board until December 2012 when she joined the council. She is also the owner of Sharon Jenkins Real Estate. Jenkins ,63, has lived in San Marcos for 48 years.

Ger a ci ,63, is a private attorney, who has also worked as a deputy city attorney for the city of San Diego’ s Trial and Appellate Division from 1983 to 1988, and been an arbiter with the San Diego Bar Associatio­n and California State Contractor­s Licensing Board. He has lived in San Marcos for 12 years, he said.

For the council’ s open District 4 seat, Army veteran Ed Musgrove was leading legislativ­e affairs manager Neil Kramer.

Musgrove, 58, is a is a retired San Diego County Sheriff ’s captain and also serves as president of the board of directors of the San Diego County L aw Enforcemen­t Foundation. He has lived in the city since 2013, and is a member of the San Marcos Planning Commission. He previously served on the city’ s traffic commission, he said. Kramer ,51, is a legislativ­e affairs manager with the San Diego Regional Center, and has lived in San Marcos for six years, and served on the city’ s budget review committee.

In the San Marcos Unified School District, Carlos Ulloa led in a field of four candidates running for an open seat in Trustee Area A. Behind him, Joseph L ai and Jay Ross were neck and neck, with L ai just slightly ahead, and Leanne M. Leon in fourth place. In Trustee Area B, challenger Sarah Ahmad led candidate Brian Epperson and incumbent Pamela Linda mood. In Trustee Area D, challenger Jaime Chamber lin held a lead against incumbent board member Victor Graham.
