DEHESA

A man was shot and killed at a rural property near Dehesa late Thursday, a sheriff ’s homicide lieutenant said.

The shooting was reported a few minutes after 10:30 p.m. at the property on Stallion Oaks Road, sheriff ’s Lt. Thomas Seiver said.

As deputies from the sheriff ’s Alpine substation headed to the scene, someone acquainted with the shooting victim drove him from the home.

The car was about a mile and a half from the shooting scene, still on Stallion Oaks but near Dehesa Road, when deputies spotted and stopped it, Seiver said. They rendered aid to the victim, as did medics with the Sycuan Fire Department, but the man died at the scene.

Seiver did not release the name of the victim nor the suspect, but said investigators do not believe there are any other suspects.

According to emergency radio traffic, one person suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. The radio traffic indicated the shooting may have happened at a property about a half-mile from the nearest road, and deputies approached the scene cautiously as the crew in a sheriff ’s helicopter described the scene to them.

Stallion Oaks Road is paved where it first branches off Dehesa Road, then turns into an unpaved dirt road that winds into the mountains northeast of Sycuan Casino. It was not immediately clear where along Stallion Oaks Road the shooting occurred.
