CARLSBAD

Carlsbad police on Wednesday released the name of a 68-year-old woman found stabbed to death on a hiking trial not far from Buena Vista Lagoon.

A passer-by found Carlsbad resident Lisa Thorborg dead just before 11:25 a.m. Monday on the Hosp Grove trail, a half mile southeast of the lagoon. Blood at the scene tipped police that her death was suspicious.

An autopsy revealed she had been stabbed.

Consumer records indicate that a woman with the same name lived less than a half mile from the trail — in a hilltop neighborhood of houses, some with ocean views. The records indicate the home was purchased this year.

A woman at the house declined to speak to a reporter

Wednesday afternoon.

Police also revealed Wednesday that they narrowed the slaying timeframe to between 10 and 11 a.m. Police did not release new details, citing the integrity of the investigation.

“We have put all available resources toward solving this case and ensuring our community’s safety,” Lt. Jason Jackowski said in a news release. “At this time, we need to hold back some details known only to law enforcement, but rest assured we will release more information just as soon as we can.”

Police are asking for help to identify and find a White or Latino man who was spotted in the area around the time.

The man was described as between 5-foot-10 and 6foot-3, with a husky build, tan skin and dark hair. He wore a black shirt, black shorts and maybe a black hat. He was also walking slowly with a slight shuff le or limp.

Police do not know if he is linked to the incident.

Investigators are also hoping to talk with anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious Monday morning in the area of the trail, near Monroe Street south of Marron Road. Witnesses or tipsters can call Carlsbad Police Department at (760) 9312165.

“(The) City of Carlsbad Police Department is working around the clock to ensure justice for Carlsbad resident Lisa (Thornborg). Our hearts are with her family and friends,” said Councilwoman Cori Shumacher, who represents the area.
