MISSION BAY

One person was killed and eight others were injured Wednesday night in a crash involving at least three vehicles, including two that rolled, on Interstate 5 in Mission Bay, authorities said.

The accident happened about 9:45 p.m. and occurred partially on the southbound side of the freeway and partially on the exit ramp to SeaWorld Drive, said the California Highway Patrol and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

One person died at the scene, according to a fire department official. Medics took eight others, including at least one child, to hospitals.

Two of the vehicles involved in the crash rolled, and firefighters had to rescue several people trapped in those vehicles, the fire department official said.

A Highway Patrol incident log indicated that a pickup was driving recklessly just before the crash, and may have cut off at least one other vehicle. A second pickup apparently swerved out of the way of the first and overturned in the process.

Among those trapped and injured were two juveniles, according to the CHP log.
