SILVA NAMED CASTLE PARK’S NEW FOOTBALL COACH FOR ’21

Veteran coach Paco Silva has been named interim head football coach at Castle Park High, taking over for Chris Livesay.

Livesay led the Trojans to an 11-2 record last season, losing 2414 to Francis Parker in the Division V championship game. He stepped down after one season.

Livesay runs a consulting business and Castle Park Athletic Director Bernard Ansolabehere said Livesay stepped down for reasons related to his business, outside of coaching.

“We were lucky to have Paco on staff,” Ansolabehere said. “Chris did a great job for us, and we’re sad to see him go. He leaves on good terms.

“Paco joined our staff late last season, he has a ton of experience, so we’re happy to have him.”

Silva was the interim coach at Eastlake last season, taking over after John McFadden was suspended.

The Titans were 4-1 under Silva, leading the team to a 4-0 record and a Metro Conference championship.

After the season, Eastlake named Drew Westling its head coach, but he stepped down weeks later, and Jason Texler is now the head coach of the Titans.

After Eastlake’s season ended, Silva joined Castle Park for the playoffs.

Silva, who is an off-campus coach, was the head coach at San Diego Southwest for four seasons, leading the Raiders to a pair of playoff berths.

He was an assistant coach at Otay Ranch for 13 seasons and was an assistant at Eastlake, Montgomery and Sweetwater.

Castle Park returns Erik Hernandez, one of the top running backs in the county. He rushed 159 times last season for 1,703 yards and 25 touchdowns.

The Trojans are slated to open the season Jan. 8 against Mountain Empire with a rematch with Francis Parker in Week 2.
