Carlsbad police are looking into an online post in which a woman who was found stabbed to death on a trail in Carlsbad last week said she was looking for a hiking partner. “Hiking anyone?”

That was a question 68-year-old Lisa Thorborg asked online two weeks before her body was found on Hosp Grove trail about a half-mile from her home the morning of Nov. 23.

“I’m looking for a friend to go hiking with,” she wrote on Nextdoor, as first reported by CBS 8. “I’m a moderate hiker, 68 years of age and would love some company.”

According to her Nextdoor and Facebook profiles, Thorborg, an acupuncturist and native of Sweden, moved from Portland, Ore., to Carlsbad in May with her daughter’s family. Her husband died in 2017.

In the hunt for clues about her slaying, police are looking into the Nov. 9 online post, but they wouldn’t say if it’s a lead in the case. On Monday, police Lt. Jacob Jackowski said only that investigators were conducting follow-up interviews related to the post.

Meanwhile, investigators were still trying to track down a man who was spotted in the area around the time of the attack, which occurred sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., police said. Passersby on the trail off Monroe Street found Thorborg’s body about 11:25 a.m.

It is unknown if this man is related to the crime. Police have called him a person of interest.

Jackowski said Monday that police have interviewed several people matching the description, but none of them were identified as a suspect in the case.

A tipster described the man as between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a husky build, tan skin and dark hair. He was wearing a black shirt, black shorts and possibly a black hat. He was walking slowly with a slight shuff le or limp.

On Saturday, about 100 community members walked the trail to honor Thorborg — an event they dubbed “Finish Lisa’s Walk.” Many left behind heartfelt messages painted on rocks.

Tipsters have been asked to call the Carlsbad police at (760) 931-2165.
