EAST COUNTY

A 16-year-old was shot several times at a marijuana dispensary near El Cajon midday Friday, and the gunman drove off, a sheriff ’s lieutenant said.

After the shooting, the victim’s friends dropped him off at a nearby gas station, where police were called about noon, Lt. Pat McEvoy said.

El Cajon police responded, but the Sheriff ’s Department is handling the investigation because the shooting happened about a block outside the city limits.

The shooting occurred at a marijuana dispensary on North Second Street, between Greenfield and Pepper drives.

The victim was taken to a trauma center, McEvoy said. He did not know the extent of the teen’s injuries or his condition.

The gunman f led in a white BMW.

Sheriff ’s officials urged anyone with information about the shooting to call San Diego County Crimes Stoppers’ anonymous tip line (888) 580-8477.

SANTEE

A Santee man was jailed this week, accused of murder and child abuse in the death of his 7-monthold daughter, a sheriff ’s lieutenant said Friday.

The arrest of Daniel Charles Marshall, 34, on Thursday comes a little more than seven months after the baby girl died.

About 7:25 p.m. on April 22, someone called for help at the family’s home on Paseo Del Ray, reporting an infant in medical distress, Sheriff ’s Lt. Thomas Seiver said in a news release.

The baby was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Siever said the “circumstances warranted further investigation,” and the department’s child abuse detectives responded. As the investigation progressed, homicide detectives stepped in and took over.

On April 25, three days after she arrived at the hospital, the baby died.

A criminal complaint indicates he is charged with murder and child abuse resulting in death. No arraignment date has been set, as COVID-19 concerns have led to delays in court hearings.
