A driver in a stolen Hummer led Chula Vista police on a pursuit Sunday that ended in a trailer park in south San Diego, where the vehicle hit and critically injured a pedestrian, San Diego police said.

The incident turned into a homicide investigation, in par t because the pedestrian’s prognosis was not favorable.

“His status is very dire, and because of that, the prognosis is not good, and the San Diego Police Depar tment homicide unit will be conducting the investigation from here on,” San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown told OnScene TV.

The vehicle was stolen from a RoadOne impound yard in Chula Vista, San Diego police Lt. Bryan Brecht told OnScene TV, although he didn’t say when.

Before the pursuit, the vehicle crashed about 11 a.m. at a Chevron gas station on the corner of Melrose and East Orange avenues in Chula Vista, Brecht said.

Information about how, when and where the pursuit began was unavailable. It came to an end in a trailer park on Palm Avenue near Thermal Avenue, just west of Interstate 5, where police surrounded the vehicle.

Video from OnScene TV shows Chula Vista and San Diego police off icers, as well as at least one sheriff ’s deputy, standing near police vehicles stopped behind the Hummer.

“Turn off the car, just throw the keys out the window and talk to me,” a law enforcement off icer is heard saying.

The Hummer suddenly takes off, driving over a spike strip that police threw in front of the vehicle. Ultimately, the vehicle stopped in front of a home in the trailer park, and off icers used a police dog to detain the driver, the video from Onscene TV shows.

The footage shows medics treating a man lying on the ground before carrying him onto a g urney, then loading him into an ambulance.

No fur ther information was immediately available.
