LOCAL DOCTOR BRINGS PPE DONATION TO OCEANSIDE

San Diego-area emergency physician Amy Aminlari saw front-line medical workers at the onset of the pandemic helping patients infected with COVID-19, while not having adequate personal protective equipment.
Aminlari, who tested positive for COVID-19, cofounded Last Mile San Diego to get masks and other personal protective equipment to front-line providers and at-risk communities that didn’t have access to adequate PPE throughout San Diego County.
As part of her efforts, Aminlari, who lives in North County, recently donated 72,000 half-liter hand sanitizers and 3,000 infrared thermometers to Oceanside and presented the supplies to Mayor Esther Sanchez for the communities hardest hit by COVID-19.
Aminlari received the donation of PPE supplies from Murphy’s Produce With Purpose, a nonprofit based in National City. The good were delivered in trucks driven by volunteers from Teamsters Local 542 and unloaded by volunteers from Ironworkers Local 229. The delivery was stored at Oceanside High School.
Aminlari and Last Mile San Diego core members Yunuen Zimmerer and Alan Kenny presented the shipment to Sanchez last month. Attendees included James Murphy and Rosie Montaño of Murphy’s Produce with Purpose; Johnny Swanson of Ironworkers 229; Alvin Mitchell and Jaime Vazquez of Teamsters; Josh Meyer, director of communications at Oceanside Unified School District; Oceanside High School Principal Jose Villareal; and Oceanside High School Lead Custodians Allen Sanders and Tommy Cabral.
