Balls and strikes: MacKenzie Gore walked three, struck out one batter and recorded two outs in the first inning before pitching a perfect second. … Taylor Williams allowed a run on a hit and a walk. He has recorded the first two outs in all four innings he has worked this spring but has allowed four total runs. … Rangers slugger Joey Gallo hit a wind-aided three-run homer off Brady Feigl that may have traveled almost 500 feet to right-center in the fifth inning.

Extra bases: Tommy Pham was a late scratch when his new contact lenses didn’t arrive before game time. Patrick Kivlehan started in his place in left field. … Shortstop CJ Abrams, the team’s top position prospect, was a healthy scratch. Tucupita Marcano started in his place.
