Public input sought on proposed Poway hotel
A developer proposing to build a five-story, 58-room boutique hotel in the Poway Business Park is seeking public input on its visibility.
Serendipity Hospitality recently installed a 60-foot story pole with an orange fabric marker at the top on the site of the proposed hotel, 14082 Stowe Drive. It is looking for feedback from Poway residents on the visibility of the pole and marker, said Anil Patel, managing partner. A story pole is a pole cut to the proposed clear height between a building’s finished floor and ceiling. In this case, it marks the height of the proposed hotel.
The hotel would require an amendment to the South Poway Specific Plan in order to extend up to 60 feet in height on its 1.23-acre parcel, Patel said. The lot is at the northeast corner of Stowe Drive and Scripps Poway Parkway, next to the Hampton Inn & Suites hotel. The specific plan allows hotels of up to three stories and a maximum of 35 feet in height.
“When we first brought our proposal to (Poway) City Council in 2020, some council members expressed concern about the visual impact on residents, particularly in the Garden Road area,” Patel said. “We believe this hotel will be a positive asset to Poway businesses and residents and we want to be good community partners. That’s why we’re going to extra lengths like installing this story pole to show the public that this property would have negligible visual impact on the Garden Road neighborhood or elsewhere along Poway Road.”
The story pole will remain up until April 5 for public input. Poway residents can submit comments to Scott Nespor, associate planner with the City of Poway’s Development Services Department at (858) 668-4656 or snespor@poway.org. Information gathered will be presented to the council at a future meeting.
Patel said Serendipity Hospitality will also be holding a neighborhood meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday via Zoom. A presentation on the hotel will be given. Patel said he is encouraging community members to attend the meeting to get information on the project. The meeting Zoom link is poway.org/ neighborhood meeting.
