Nonprofit, credit union partner for scholarships
The North County African American Women’s Association is expanding its educational support programs in partnership with North Island Credit Union, which is funding an additional $10,000 in college scholarships.
The credit union will provide financial programs and mentoring to teach budgeting, money management, savings and practical financial life skills for high school girls in the association’s Global Ambassador Mentoring Program.
“Helping young women achieve their dreams is made possible through our community coming together to provide the educational support needed. We are particularly excited to have North Island Credit Union offer this additional college scholarship support and essential financial mentoring for rising high school students,” said NCAAWA President Linda Simpkins-Berry in a statement. “This partnership will help NCAAWA continue our mission to empower, inspire, and engage young women to increase their self-sufficiency.”
North County female students of African American descent who are graduating high school seniors, as well as those who are attending career training in Regional Occupational Programs, trade school, college and/or graduate students, are eligible to apply for scholarships. Online applications will be accepted through April 30.
NICU is specifically expanding NCAAWA’s ability to award up to four $2,500 scholarships, with special consideration when possible for students pursuing degrees in education. Learn more at ncaawa.org/scholarships.
