GIANTS CONTINUE SIGNING SPREE, ADDING CB

-

The New York Giants continued their free agent spending spree, signing cornerback Adoree’ Jackson.

A person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press the team reached a threeyear deal with the former Tennessee Titan. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because the agreement with the free agent has not been announced.

The deal is believed to be worth roughly $13 million annually.

Jackson was due $10.24 million under the fifth-year option the Titans picked up last year. But he became a salary cap casualty last month after a knee injury just before the start of the season limited him to three games in 2020. Jackson started 41 of 46 games for the Titans and has only two career interceptions.

The first-round pick out of USC had 33 pass deflections, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also can return kicks.

Since the start of free agency, the Giants have signed wide receiver Kenny Golladay, twotime Pro Bowl tight end Kyle Rudolph, fellow Vikings defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo,

quarterback Mike Glennon, inside linebacker Reggie Ragland, running back Devontae Booker, receiver John Ross, fullback Cullen Gillaspia — all as free agents.

New York had a 6-10 record under first-year coach Joe Judge last season.

No basement blues Roger Goodell’s

leaving his man cave for this year’s NFL Draft. The commissioner missed welcoming new players last year — and being booed.

“He’s excited to get out of the

basement,” joked league executive Peter O’Reilly.

A year after a three-day stop in Las Vegas was scrapped and one of its signature events had to go virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the league announced initial plans for this year’s draft in Cleveland, where thousands of fans will be safely welcomed in a step toward normalcy.

Goodell hosted last year’s draft from home, but he’ll be on hand for this year’s event, which will incorporate all the health and safety protocols learned by the league over the past year as well as the city’s best known locations along Lake Erie — FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Browns, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Raiders showed their confidence in center Andre James by giving him a three-year contract less than a week after trading away starter Rodney Hudson. NFL Network reported that the deal is worth $12.5 million with about $6 million guaranteed. Las Vegas also signed defensive linemen Matt Dickerson and Darius Philon to one-year contracts in the latest moves to add depth at the position.

• The 49ers agreed to bring back safety Jaquiski Tartt ona one-year deal and signed safety Tavon Wilson to a one-year contract.

• The Steelers are bringing back defensive lineman Chris Wormley on a two-year deal. Wormley appeared in 13 games for the Steelers last season.

• The NFL said it awarded the Patriots an additional compensatory pick for this year’s draft due to a correction by the league’s management council. League spokesman Michael Signora said in a statement that there was a miscalculation of the average yearly compensation.
