Stop making excuses for arming killers

-

Re “Authorities: 21-yearold man in custody after fatal shootings at Atlantaarea massage parlors leave 8 dead” (March 16): An endless stream of mass murders in our country can be attributed to the ease of obtaining weapons of war by any civilian.

How do the manufacturers and distributors of such killing machines as AR-15s sleep at night? Knowingly or not, rationalizations notwithstanding, all are accessories to murder. For money.

I seriously doubt the authors of the Second Amendment had in mind a license for Americans to wantonly kill other Americans on the very streets of America, under the umbrella of a perverse interpretation of the Constitution.

It is long past time for elected leaders in Congress and the Senate to think

right and with courage about this deadly, useless monstrosity of a carved-instone law.

The first duty of the government is to protect the safety of the people. What will it take to make them do their jobs?

Stan Levin Serra Mesa

When the founders of our Constitution wrote it, they had no idea what the future would hold. Their thoughts were to see that the majority of the population would still be able to provide food and protection for their families.

As a Vietnam vet, I have seen the necessary use of weapons of war.

But they should absolutely be illegal for our citizens. The exception should be hunting rifles.

We need to amend the Second Amendment to exclude weapons of war with a mandatory prison sentence for possession. To me, the National Rifle Association of America should be designated a terrorist organization.

If it’s necessary, a national referendum on this should be created to see how the majority of our citizens feel.

After all, we are a democracy.
